Split the tips by hours. To the penny.
Type in the pot and everyone's hours. Each share is worked out exactly, rounded down to the penny, and the leftover pennies go to whoever was rounded down the most, so it always adds up.
Why rounding matters
Split £100 three ways and you get £33.333… each. Round everyone to £33.33 and a penny goes missing; round up and you've paid out a penny you didn't receive. Over a year of weekly splits, those pennies add up, and the law says every penny of tips belongs to the team.
Tiproll uses the largest remainder method: everyone gets their exact share rounded down, then the leftover pennies go one at a time to the people whose shares were rounded down the most (ties go to whoever worked more hours, then alphabetical order). It's simple to explain on a staff statement, and the total always matches the pot exactly.
